Music as Sound and its Effect on Blood, Bone and Brain
Tuesday March 30, 2021
Time: 7:00pm
Location: Webinar
We usually encounter music and research about music without considering music merely as sound - the way a cat might hear it. But when you look at music as rhythmic or pulsed waves of compressed molecules and how these interact with your mind and body you get a surprising perspective - and hard to understand responses.
Join Lee Bartel, PhD, Professor Emeritus, former Associate Dean of Research, and Founding Director of the Music and Health Research Collaboratory (MaHRC) at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto. This talk will clarify a model of response to music and pulsed stimulation and how it can affect us from a psychological level to a cellular level. It will then look specifically at how sound vibration is translated to a response in the body and brain. Clinical treatments and research will be described how these cellular level effects are applied in conditions like pain, stroke, Alzheimer’s, spinal alignment, bone density, circulation, depression, etc.

Call for Artists
Missed your chance to apply to the Green Show? We have 3 opportunity's to apply to exhibit in The Gallery. The Juried Show 2021, Municipal Art Program (MAP) 2021-2022, and The Gallery at L.E. Shore's 2022 exhibit schedule.
This summer the ACC will host a Juried Show. Originally planned for 2020 and the Gallery’s 25th anniversary, this will be a fantastic opportunity to submit for judging and receive feedback from respected artists. The registration portal for this show will open in mid-March and close on April 30. The submissions will be judged for shortlisting and invitation to hang in The Gallery in July (2D and 3D) and August (Photography). In the three categories, we will offer regular and a youth competition registration for 20 and under. For more information on applying to show in this exhibit, visit our Applying to Exhibit page.
The Municipal Art Program will be placing their 2021-22 call for applicants in May 5-31. Artists selected for this exhibit will be shown for a year at the TBM Town Hall.
The third opportunity for artists is our Annual Call for Applicants for The Gallery 's 2022 season will open this summer. This is for more prolific artists, but group applicants are also encouraged. Calls for all three of these will be available on our Applying to Exhibit page.
